How it works
Free, safe water from a local church
Each system is a portable WaterStep M-100 chlorinator. It connects to a community water tank and runs on a 12-volt power supply, purifying a 290-gallon church tank in about an hour. Communities get the water for free.
- We partner with a local church or ministry that hosts the system and shares the water with its neighbors.
- Volunteers install the chlorinator and train local coordinators to run and maintain it.
- We keep checking in. We monitor every system, refresh training and move chlorinators to wherever they're needed most.

Health and hygiene
Teaching healthy habits
Clean water goes further with clean hands. Alongside each system, we teach health-and-hygiene classes for local children, and we empower local laypersons to run the systems, so whole communities take part in staying healthy.
Our local physician has noted a significant drop in water-related diarrheal illness in the communities we serve.

Following up on every system
In March 2019 our team revisited existing sites to check that each system was still needed and working. Chlorinators no longer needed at older sites were put to work in new ones, and the team installed systems in three new communities: La Paz, Choluteca and Coyolar.

Give a community safe water
A gift of $1,000 buys a WaterStep chlorinator. Gifts of any size help us install, train and keep every system running.
